â€œPut Christ at the helmâ€ says Habegger in receiving honor
â€œSurprised that they did that,â€ is local businessman Charlie Habeggerâ€™s reaction to the fact that Bethel College recently bestowed on him, â€œtrustee emeritus,â€ at its Founderâ€™s Society banquet.
The honor means that despite his retirement from the board of trustees, he is still invited to meetings to share his input without voting power.
Habegger became a member of the Bethel College board of trustees in 1987. He remembers John Tuckey, one of Bethelâ€™s founding fathers, telling him the college could benefit from someone with a background in the building trade.
