In a special board meeting on Tuesday evening, the South Adams School Board wrapped up a four-week search by acting on the recommendation of superintendent Scott Litwiller and high school principal Trent Lehman and
unanimously approving the hiring of Jason Arnold as South Adams’ new athletic director.
“I’m looking forward to working with him during this transition time,” said Litwiller.
Arnold is currently the head football coach for the Starfires, a high school social studies teacher, and a driver’s education teacher. He is a graduate of Ball State University and has a degree in administration. He was hired at South Adams five years ago as the head football coach and a social studies teacher. He has experience coaching football from elementary through high school and spent some time coaching soccer at Geyer Middle School early in his career.
Arnold’s final day teaching will be Friday, September 21, and his first official day as athletic director will be Monday, September 24. He will also be allowed to finish out the season as head football coach before beginning the task of starting the search for his replacement.
“He’s shown good leadership through the football program,” stated Litwiller.
Litwiller stated that his administration degree and his strong leadership were two of the things that made him a stand out candidate.
When asked about being hired for the position, Arnold stated that it was a good opportunity for him and that he was looking forward to getting familiar with the position.
“I’m excited to get involved with other programs,” said Arnold
There were 24 applicants, and the board interviewed eight.
