New pavilion planned for Muensterberg Plaza
The Berne Community Development Corporation has announced plans to construct a pavilion on the Muensterberg Plaza.
David Baumgartner, president of Berne CDC stated, “The pavilion will be located at the northeast corner of the plaza and will have much needed restroom facilities and will also serve as a wonderful picnic area. This will be the final improvement needed for the plaza to complete our eight pillar campaign.”
Plans are to begin construction in the spring and have the pavilion ready for the summer event season. The pavilion will also house the splash pad computers as well as provide needed storage areas.
The campaign budget for the pavilion improvements, including picnic tables, additional benches, a new concrete wall at the northeast corner of the plaza and new sidewalks on Water and Harrison Streets was recently set at $400,000 by the Berne CDC board of directors.
“Our campaign for pavilion funds has begun,” said Jim Beitler, fundraising co-chair, “and we couldn’t be more thrilled about our initial progress. We are announcing that a generous donor has pledged matching funds of $200,000. This means that persons donating now will have their gifts actually double in value.”
Roger Muselman, co-chair of the fundraising committee added, “The pavilion will also house the long-awaited plaque honoring those donors who have contributed for the plaza’s trees, lampposts, flower gardens and benches. An additional plaque, “The Patron Plaque”, is still available for donors who donate a minimum of $1,000 for this pavilion campaign.”
Certain gifts and pledges will grant automatic one year membership in the newly formed Clock Tower Patron Society, formed to assure maintenance of the grounds and gardens for future years.
The Fundraising Committee will accept gifts and pledges (for up to three years) through February 28.
“This campaign will be of short duration, but we want everyone to have a chance to participate in this community project”, said Beitler.
If the campaign exceeds its goal, plans are to add the excess amount to the endowment fund. Pledge forms may be picked up at the offices of Baumgartner Attorneys, 360 W. Main Street, or by contacting any fundraiser. The fundraising committee is composed of David Baumgartner, Charles Isch, Dwight Habegger, Fred Lehman, Floyd Liechty, John Kirchhofer, Nancy Subler, Ronald Sprunger, Roger Muselman and James Beitler.
