Sprunger always finished his job during 76-year career

Eli Sprunger always enjoyed his work. He sprayed thousands of pieces of furniture with varnish and lacquer. He walked into Nussbaum Novelty Company, formerly located on South Jefferson Street in Berne, and didn't hang up his apron until just a few months ago at age 92. He will turn 93 on April 22.
"That work at the Novelty was my first job. I don't remember what I was paid but it wasn't very much," recalled Sprunger. "At first I would take things off the turn table. Then they taught me to spray jewelry boxes and music boxes with varnish through a spray gun.
