Former South Adams Elementary School principal Brian Strauss was arrested with multiple charges involving sexual misconduct with a minor Thursday afternoon.
The former principal was arrested by LaPorte County authorities and charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony; sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class C felony; child solicitation, a Class C felony and vicarious sexual gratification, a Class D felony.
According to the LaPorte County Sheriff Department, Strauss was arrested at his home without incident on Thursday afternoon. He was being held on $35,000 bond at LaPorte County Jail.
“The arrest is the result of an investigation that was initiated after a complaint of an inappropriate relationship between the former educator and a former student was received by the LaPorte County Sheriff Department,” stated a news release from the department.
Strauss tendered his resignation to South Adams Superintendent Scott Litwiller on Oct. 3, effective immediately.
“Mr. Strauss informed me that he is under investigation in relation to his previous employment in another county. The investigation does not involve his work for or presence in South Adams Schools,” Litwiller said at the time.
Strauss came to the local elementary position in 2010.
The incidents were alleged to have occurred at South Central Elementary School in LaPorte County where Strauss was a teacher prior to his employment at South Adams.
