First time scholarships presented on South Adams Awards Night

Some of Barb McDonald’s earliest memories are that of pretending she was teaching school to her favorite dolls. At a very young age, McDonald said, she would line up her dolls and give them lessons on what she thought was important. As a youth, she taught Bible school, tutored migrants and was a cadet teacher. As a retired professional from 26 years of teaching, she wishes the McDonald Education Scholarship to provide support for a student going into the field of education. McDonald, a South Adams graduate, received her bachelor’s degree from Goshen College and master’s degree from Indiana University. Coni Mayer, executive director of Adams County Community Foundation, announced and presented this first-ever award to Autumn Von Gunten. Von Gunten will be attending IPFW this fall and plans to major in elementary education. The award amount for the scholarship was $2,500.
