Plants carry flood damage scars toward harvest season

Jeff Lehman of Lehman Feed Mill said late Thursday that unfortunately, significant damage from the early summer flooding continues to ride with area crops as they approach the harvest season. Lehman said that for awhile, there appeared to be some recovery as rains subsided, but as the plants continue to mature, some of the flood scars are starting to show themselves more vividly again. Of the two major crops (soybeans and corn) working towards fall harvest, Lehman said that it appears that the soybeans have the best chance of producing some success for the harvest labors. Even at that, said Lehman, there are more indications recently of “sudden death syndrome” returning to area fields. Lehman said that some agronomists are confused about the apparent return of death syndrome to area bean fields. “Many of the beans are still looking nice and green.
