McKean passes barbershop keys on to Baumer

When Berne Mayor Bill McKean held the keys in his hand to what had been Maynard Rich’s barbershop on Jan. 1, 1971, he couldn’t believe that his predecessor had cut hair in the two-story building on East Main Street for over 20 years. Little did he realize that he would more than double that run, completing over 44 years as one of the community’s premier barbers. For the past several months, McKean said he had been considering retiring from his barbering business to devote more time to his family, his own health efforts and his commitment as Berne’s Mayor.
