Ann Kahlert, 81, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2013 at her home. She was born on November 11, 1931 in Katharinental, Ukraine to Klemens and Katharina (Flink) Horner. Before her marriage in 1959 to Josef N. Kahlert, she held a position in Stuttgart, Germany. After arriving in the United States on September 25, 1955, she was the assistant koechin at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismark, North Dakota.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Decatur. She loved her needlework and created hundreds of fine doilies. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of Berne; two daughters, JoAnn E. (Walter) Comment of Decatur; and Victoria D. (Rodger) Reagan of Bluffton; two sons, Michael J. (Rhonda) Kahlert of Decatur; and Paul (Judell) Kahlert of Berne; sister, Victoria Hopfner of Calgary, Canada; and five grandchildren, Nathan Louis Comment; Benjamin Josef Kahlert; Elizabeth Ann Comment; Ashley Nicole (Quenton) Benya; and Jennifer Lynn Kahlert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Emilie Jahner; Pauline Schwenk; and Magda Behringer.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation, and a private service will be held for the immediate family. Burial will be at Ray Cemetery in Monroe.
