Christian J. Liechty
Christian J. "Chris" Liechty, 83, of Berne passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on December 31, 1928 in Adams County to Walter and Emelia (Sprunger) Liechty. He was married on November 6, 1955 to Betty Steiner.
He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday school and was a volunteer at the yearly meat canner event. He was a retired farmer and was in oil and gas petroleum sales and delivery for 33 years. He retired from the National Oil & Gas Co. in sales and delivery. He was a member of the Hartford Township Advisory Board and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. His interests included photography, reading, visiting with people, and staying in contact with his many veteran friends for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife; son, Mike (Elaine) Liechty of Geneva; two daughters, Audrey (Dan) Chapman of Carmel; and Lori (Jud) Myers of Berne; and seven grandchildren, Bryn, Jordon, Joshua and Justin Chapman; and Nicholis, Abby, and Jessica Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Liechty; brother, Harry Liechty; and four sisters, Ernestine Sprunger; Florence Biberstine; Henreitta Biberstine; and Frieda Dieffenbach.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, June 20 at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Flueckiger. Burial will take place at the MRE Cemetery.
