Darwin J. Harter
Darwin J. Harter, 89, of Fort Recovery, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville, Ohio. He was born on September 7, 1924 in Salamonia to Walter and Lulu (Bibler) Harter. He was married on September 7, 1952 to Doris Granger. She passed away on October 29, 1990. He was married to June Schultz on July 2, 1995. She passed away in 2001.
He was a graduate of the former Madison High School, Madison Township, Indiana. He served in the Army Air Corps. He retired from Teledyne Forge in Portland and was the caretaker for Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Fort Recovery, Ohio. He was a member of the Fort Recovery American Legion in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
He is survived by a son, E. Mack (Melaine) Harter of Fort Recovery, Ohio; two daughters, Elizabeth (Alvin) Lehman of Berne; and Jackie Harter of Fort Recovery, Ohio; twin brother, Donald Harter of Fort Recovery, Ohio; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Harter; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3 at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery, Ohio and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Friday, October 4 at the Church of the Nazarene in Fort Recovery, Ohio. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Kelley. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion.
Memorials may be made to Church of the Nazarene or the Cancer Association of Mercer County.
