Ernest R. Liechty

Ernest R. Liechty, 78, of Berne passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on December 14, 1934 in Adams County to Amos and Della (Nussbaum) Liechty. He was married on April 5, 1958 to Berdella M. Alt.
He was a member of the First Mennonite Church and was active in a diversified livestock and grain farm. He was supportive of his church, county 4-H organization, FFA and the MCC Meat Canner. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his two sons, Ted (Kathy) Liechty; and Kent (Teri) Liechty, both of Berne; two daughters, Jane (Denver) Nussbaum; and Sondra (Jeff) Lehman, both of Monroe, three sisters, Grace Herman of Keystone; and Irena Sprunger; and Leona Neuenschwander, both of Berne; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; granddaughter, Kimberly Nussbaum; three brothers, Grover Liechty; Irvin Liechty; and Amos Liechty, Jr.; and five sisters, Vera Gerber; Marcella Scholl; Esther Neuenschwander; Justine Liechty; and Ernestine Liechty.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1 at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, February 2 at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Memorials may be made to the MCC Meat Canner or Galesburg Rescue Mission & Women's Shelter in Galesburg, Illinois.
