Helen A. Newton, 87, of Berne, formerly of Worthington, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne. She was born on April 3, 1926 in Colrain, Massachusetts to John and Anezka (Jandova) Dobias, Jr. She was married on April 16, 1944 at the Nobnoster Air Force Base Chapel in Warrensburg, Missouri to Donald G. Newton, Sr.
She graduated with honors in 1943 from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. They lived most of their life in the East but settled in Berne in July 1996 to be close to their son and his family.
She is survived by a son, Donald (Edith) Newton, Jr. of Linn Grove; daughter, Juanita (James) Pruner of Worthington, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Sarah (Pruner) Crawford of Pennsylvania; Kate Pruner of Easthampton, Massachusetts; James John (JJ) Pruner of Boston, Massachusetts; Jeanette Newton; and Alyssa (Newton) Snyder, both of Linn Grove; and David Newton of Geneva; five great-grandchildren, Max and Ryan Crawford of Pennsylvania; Lauren and Avery Munster of Easthampton, Massachusetts; and Samuel Snyder of Linn Grove; niece, Patricia Robbins of Greenfield, Massachusetts; nephew, William C. (Eileen) Dobias of Hereford, Arizona; and other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, William J. Dobias.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
