Helen M. Sprunger
Helen M. Sprunger, 95, of Berne passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on February 4, 1917 in Adams County to Christian and Alina (Burry) Balsiger. She was married on June 11, 1941 to Edward A. Sprunger.
She was a member of the First Mennonite Church and was on the charter committee that composed the original church Swiss Pantry cookbook. She was a "prayer warrior" and knitted many afghans for missions. She and her husband spent many winters volunteering at Camp Gilead in Florida. She also enjoyed traveling, knitting, spending summers at the lake, gardening, and she loved her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Beth (Tom) Jones; and Barbara McDonald, both of Berne; and Candy (Darrel) Schierling of Zionsville; six grandchildren, Jamie McDonald; Tom Jones, Jr.; Tami Yoder; Taya Yoder; LeAnn Hardy; and Bret Shierling; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Eldon and Milford Balsiger; and two sisters Gertrude Balsiger; and Vera Lehman.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, December 12 at the First Mennonite Church chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger. Burial will take place at the MRE Cemetery in Berne.
