Ivan L. Beer, 74, formerly of Bluffton, passed away at 5:24 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Ossian Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on September 19, 1938 in Adams County to Alva “Alvie” and Effie (LaTurner) Beer.
He was a 1956 graduate of Bluffton High School. He was a member of the former St. John United Church of Christ. He was a truck driver and was also employed at International Harvester, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, and was owner/operator of Ivan’s Carpet Cleaning. He served in the National Guard for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and the Moose and Elks Lodge in Bluffton.
He is survived by three sons, Kevin Beer; Kent (Tracy) Beer; and Kurt (Angie) Beer, all of Bluffton; two daughters, Lori (Jon) Dobson of Bluffton; and Kristin Beer of Tampa, Florida; three sisters, Marlene (George) Schlagenhauf; and Elaine (Gene) Stoppenhagen, both of Bluffton; and Janet (Burtis) Moses of Frisco, Texas; nine grandchildren, one great-granchild; and loyal companion, his dog Mocca.
Visitation will be five hours prior to the 7:00 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, March 28 at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220E SR 124, Bluffton. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Holland. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 111 and United States Honor Guard at the funeral home.
