James A. Mast

James “Jim” A. Mast, 76, a resident of Berne, died at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
He was born on February 8, 1934, in Clarence Center, New York, to Ammon and Alice (Wideman) Mast. He was married on June 5, 1955 to Arlene Habegger.
He was a member of the Berne Evangelical Church. He was an employee of Berne Apparel for thirty-five years as a machine technician and worked for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette as a newspaper carrier for forty-eight years. He also owned and operated Mast Lawn Service. He was a member of the Berne Lions Club and was a member of Gideons International. He enjoyed music and was a member of the church quartet, as well as a member of the Edelweiss Men’s Chorus. He was an avid pool player who followed Indiana University sports.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Alan (Deedra) Mast of Borden; one daughter, Annette (Myron) Schwartz of Berne; one sister, Anna Mae Petit of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two grandsons, Trevor and Aaron Mast; and three granddaughters, Morgan Mast; and Sarah; and Rebecah Schwartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three step-brothers, Charles; Paul; and Ammon Mast Jr.; and one stepsister, Verda Jantzi.
Visitation is from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne, and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. service on Thursday, August 26 at the Berne Evangelical Church. Officiating is Rev. Kent Fahl. Burial will be in the Evangelical Mennonite Church Cemetery.
