Jay M. Kitt, 83, of Andrews passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at his residence. He was born on January 5, 1930 in Huntington County to Esser M. and Mabel (Schenkel) Kitt. He was married on April 6, 1947 at Andrews United Methodist Church to Norma I. Krile.
He attended Andrews High School. He was hired as a locomotive engineer with the Wabash Railroad and retired from Norfolk Southern after 42 years. He had also qualified as a steam engineer on the Wabash Railroad.
He was a local chairman of the B.L.E. Union. He was an assistant Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a member of Andrews United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.
He is survivedy by his wife; two sons, Kyle (Brenda) Kitt of Andrews; and Tyler (Brittany) Kitt of Bluffton; daughter, Renee (Mike) Chenault of Roann; brother, Edgar (Mila) Kitt of Henderson, Nevada; 13 grandchildren: Jason Kitt; Brandon Kitt; Danielle Miller; Heather Chenault; Patrice Chenault; Michael Chenault; Jay Rhoads; Jonathan Rhoads; Jordan Rhoads; Ethan Kitt; Eli Kitt; Evan Kitt; and Elayna Kitt; and nine great-grandchildren, Gage Miller; Alia Miller; Madalyn Kitt; Reid Kitt; Turner Stephens; Stella Stephens; Mosby Stephens; Declan Chenault; and Landon Chenault.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Ann Rhoads; and sister, Alice Clouser.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, June 26 at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington. Officiating will be Pastor Andrew Hawk. Burial will be at Mississinewa Cemetery in Somerset.
