Kathleen M. Henkel
Kathleen M. Henkel, 81, Berne of passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on May 2, 1931 to Ralph and Marie (Niswander) Gerig. She was married on August 16, 1952 to Walter "Wally" Henkel.
She graduated from Auburn High School and St. Francis College in 1971. She also attended Fort Wayne Bible College and Oberlin College. She taught elementary music in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. She taught piano and organ privately and was an organist for the First Missionary Church in Berne. She was an accompanist of the "Edelweiss Singers" men's chorus for 13 years.
She is survived by a son, Kurt (Vicki) Henkel of Fremont, Ohio; two daughters, Elise Schrock of Decatur; and Denise (Kenneth) Nedimyer of Tavenier, Florida; sister, Joyce (Ed) Widmark of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, Darrell Gerig.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, October 9 at the First Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Max Haines. Burial will take place at the MRE Cemetery in Berne.
