Kathryn R. Strickler, 95, of Decatur passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Geneva to Elmer and Opal (Cole) Pyle. She was married on September 2, 1940 to Paul E. Strickler.
She was a member of the Decatur Church of God, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years, and was on the Board of Trustees and the building committee of the church. She was co-owner of Adams County Trailer Sales Inc. She was active in the Research Club; Root Township Home Ec. Club; Business and Professional Women’s Club, which she was named Women of the Year; and Daughters of American Revolution. She started the Adams Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where they raised money for purchasing new equipment for the hospital and also started the gift shop. She was also a member of Key 73 and was awarded the co-Stephen Decatur Award along with her husband in 2002.
She is survived by three daughters, Cassandra K. Sanderson; Paula (Ben) Eliseo; and Cynthia (Douglas) Rieth, all of Decatur; 18 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on December 31, 2010; and a daughter, Deborah A. Lee.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, January 4 at Decatur Church of God. Officiating will be Jerry Mitchel. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Paul and Kathryn Strickler Cancer Center or Family LifeCare-Hospice.
