Kent D. Whitacre

Kent D. Whitacre, 64, of Monroe passed away at 2:36 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2012 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur following a three year battle with cancer. He was born on November 14, 1947 in Decatur to DeVon and Alberta (Weil) Whitacre. He was married on January 10, 1970 at North Highland Church in Fort Wayne to Jill Berryman.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, Ohio; VFW Post 6236 in Decatur; Masonic Lodge #571 in Decatur; and Scottish Rite F&M in Fort Wayne. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Vietnam War on the USS Thomaston-LSD 28.
He was the owner/operator of B&K Hydraulics in Monroe for 37 years and was a life-long farmer in Blue Creek Township. He enjoyed traveling and attending festivals and tractor shows with his wife. He was a former member of the Blue Creek Conservation Club. He also enjoyed metal detecting and ham radio operation.
He is survived by his wife of Monroe; son, Scott (Jennifer) Whitacre of Woodburn; two daughters, Tina (Jeff) Crook of Canal Fulton, Ohio; and Nicole Whitacre of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Brandon Crook, Emily Crook, Trenton Crook, and Kyle Crook; and best friend Max (Fox Rat Terrier).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13 and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14 at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be Rev. Don Bachman. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Chattanooga, Ohio.
