Matilda "Til" Meyer Leatherman, 95, of Berne, formerly of Celina, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on September 18, 1917 in Huntington County to John A. and Lena (Schenkel) Meyer. She was married on August 18, 1976 to Wilber Leatherman.
She was a member of the Cross United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school. She worked for 20 years for Gottschalk Supply in Berne, Celina Farm Bureau and later retired as a bookkeeper from J.C. Penney in Celina, Ohio. She enjoyed needlepoint, making jewelry, painting, and traveling worldwide with her nieces and nephews. She also had a special interest in children and read to them in Kindercare while at Swiss Village.
She is survived by a sister, Maxine Nussbaum of Berne; six nieces and nephews, Ronda Nietch of Niles, Michigan; Nira Jo Nussbaum of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Lenell Nussbaum of Seattle, Washington; Jon K. Nussbaum of Temecula, California; Annita Meyer of Columbus, Ohio; and Dr. Devon Meyer of Eaton, Ohio; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; nephew, Dr. Rick Meyer; brother, Raymond "Jake" Meyer; and sister, Margaret Beitler.
Visitation will be three hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, June 22 at Swiss Village in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Timothy Price. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Memorials may be made to the Cross United Church of Christ in Berne or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
