Nadine M. Kennedy
Nadine Maxine Kennedy, 86, of Tacoma, Washington passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013. She was born on July 23, 1926 in Berne to Ellis and Catherine Lehman. She was married in 1947 to Dr. Herbert C. Kennedy. He passed away in 2002.
She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was a U.S. Cadet Nurse during World War II. During her nursing career she worked in bedside nursing, doctors’ offices, outpatient clinics and the operating room. She was a head nurse in the OR at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
In 1956, she and her husband moved to Tacoma, Washington where they raised their three children. She became active in Pierce County Medical Wives, Junior League of Tacoma, Weenonah Orthopedic Guild (to support Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital), a book club and art and health organizations. She enjoyed skiing, tennis, bridge, cooking and entertaining. She also collected paperweights and nutcrackers. Her love of travel took her to many parts of the world. She was a respected member of the community, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Kennedy Sell of San Diego, California; son, Michael and (Carla) Kennedy of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, Emily Liebig; Laura Sell; Greg Sell; Sarah Kennedy; and Christopher Kennedy; and three great-grandchildren, Joe Liebig; Matt Liebig; and Ava Marie Sell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Steven Kennedy in 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Chambers Creek Chapel.
