Raymond L. Boggs, 80, of Bryant passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his residence in Bearcreek Township, Jay County. He was born on Friday, September 9, 1932 in Harlan to Henry and Martha (Griffin) Boggs. He was married on Tuesday, November 4, 1952 in Van Wert, Ohio to Carolyn Shannon.
He attended Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne and then enlisted in the US Navy. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Operators Union Local 103 for 50 years. He was a member of Bethel Brethren Church of Berne, Tri-State Gas Engine Club, as well as the American Legion Post and Masonic Lodge 87, all of Portland.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Richard (Becky) Boggs of Willshire, Ohio; DeWayne (Casey) Boggs of Portland; and Patrick (Heather) Ludy of Spencerville; and five grandchildren, Jessica Stump of Sidney, Ohio; Shelley Turner of Portland; Ian Snyder of Spencerville; Tommy Ludy of Decatur; and Nathan Stump of Sidney, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13 and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, February 14 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Officiating will be Pastor Joe Naas. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne. Military rites will be conducted by the Portland American Legion Post and the United States Navy.
