Robert Ellenberger

Robert L. “Bob” Ellenberger, 90, of Berne passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne, where he had been a patient for the past 11 months. He was born September 9, 1929, in Berne to Arlie and Elva (Brewster) Ellenberger. He was married June 30, 1972, in Decatur to Barbara Barker Whitehurst.
He was a graduate of Geneva High School class of 1947. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne. He managed Nussbaum Novelty from 1946 to 1983. In addition, he was employed in the mill room at Berne Furniture from 1984 until his retirement in 2006.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding motorcycles, horseshoe pitching, bowling, gardening, shuffleboard and NASCAR aces.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; three daughters, Lois (Ray) Dobbs of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Nancy (Ozzie) Ostheimer; and Brenda Brazill, both of Fort Wayne; two sons, Doug (Laurie) Ellenberger of Romney; and Scott (Brenda) Ellenberger of Columbia City; step-daughter, Janeen Hutchins of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-son, Jeff (Shelly) Whitehurst of Zephyrhills, Florida; brother, Jerome (Shirley) Ellenberger of Geneva;  sister, Coleen McCullough of Geneva; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Huffman on September 22, 1962; and brother, Kenneth Ellenberger in 2009.
The safety of the family and all visitors are of the utmost priority. For safety reasons, it is requested that everyone practice social distancing and wear a mask during your visit.
Visitation will be three hours prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Thursday, June 11 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Wertenberger and Pastor Mark Walus. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or Alzheimer’s Research.
