Robert G. Christener
Robert Gene Christener, 71, of Monroe passed away at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born on October 28, 1942 in Decatur to John and Evelyn Maxine (Bovine) Christener, Jr. He was married on April 15, 1989 in Adams County to Carolyn Sue Amstutz.
He was a graduate of Adams Central High School and was a member of the St. Luke Church. He owned Christener’s Custom Hauling, where he hauled livestock and farm-related materials; worked for Automatic Sprinkler for 29 ½ years; and raised sheep. He was a member of National Corriedale Association (sheep breeders) of Iowa and showed several Grand Champions at Mercer County and Van Wert County in Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of Monroe; two daughters, Tina Jean (John) Sloan of Tampa, Florida; and Amy Jo (Scott) Ripley of Decatur; step-son, Scott D. (Cyndee) Millington of Decatur; two sisters, Carolyn Kae (Marvin) Taylor; and Marilyn Mae Schaadt, both of Monroe; three grandchildren, Micheal, Drew, and Haley Ripley; and four step-grandchildren, Grant, Mahima, Edin and Maria Millington.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, June 2 at St. Luke Church, 4960W 100N, Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Wertenberger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
