Ruth E. Schwartz, 91, of Berne passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on December 22, 1920 in Adams County to Wilbert and Lila (Sprunger) Nussbaum. She was married on October 6, 1940 in Berne to Ernest Schwartz.
She was a member of the First Mennonite Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Mennonite Choral Society. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, handcrafts, and crocheting.
She is survived by two daughters, Jocelyn (James) Blum of Fort Wayne; and Amy (Ken) Troutman of Syracuse; son, Ted (Lana) Schwartz of Berne; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob) Nahrstadt of Atlanta, Georgia; Joan (Bill) Doran of Elgin, Illinois; Julie Olson; and Lendon (Tiffany) Schwartz, both of Yorktown; Jeff (Nena) Troutman of Ossian; and Jason (Becki) Schwartz of Berne; 12 great-grandchildren, Michael Nahrstadt; Drew Doran; Mikayla Doran; Katie Olson; Jeffrey Troutman; Anne Marie Troutman; Mariah Troutman; Laramie Schwartz; Ella Schwartz; Julianne Schwartz; Malia Schwartz; and Kiptyn Schwartz; and brother, Paul Nussbaum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; great-grandson, Jacob Olson; brother, Jerome Nussbaum; and two sisters, Mary Jane Sprunger; and Bernice Flueckiger.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8 and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, July 9 at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Flueckiger. Burial will take place at the MRE Cemetery in Berne.
