Stanley P. Teeter

Stanley P. Teeter, 84, of Portland passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born on April 30, 1929 in Berne to Ralph and Mildred (Stucky) Teeter. He was married on July 30, 1955 to Gloria L. Lehman.
He was a Geneva High School graduate and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was owner of Baird-Freeman Funeral Home for many years and a funeral director for over 60 years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Portland Lions Club, American Legion Post #211, 40/8, Portland Elks Lodge, Indiana Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and charter member of 4-H Horse and Pony Club. He served on the First National Bank Board of Directors, Library Board, Green Park Cemetery Board and Jay County Fair Board. He was a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in 1998.
He is survived by a son, David (Meranda) Teeter of Portland; daughter Sarah (Gary) Theurer of Union City (in Jay County); three brothers, Kenneth Teeter of Delight, Arkansas; Cecil Teeter of Convoy, Ohio; and Dick Teeter of Albion; three sisters, Mary Teeple of Bryant; Vera (Jim) Dailey of Geneva; and Linda Heuston of Berne; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on May 22, 1999; and two brothers, Ralph and Vincel Teeter.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, July 25 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Strietelmeier. Burial will be at Green Park Cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post #211.
Memorials may be made to State of the Heart Hospice or Asbury United Methodist Church.
