Sylvester R. "Vet" Whitenack, 75, of Fremont passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012 at his home. He was born on February 13, 1936 to Benjamin and Hazel (Ross) Whitenack. He was married on July 3, 1955 to Helen Galloway.
He was a machinist at CTS Corp in Berne for 30 years. Later, he worked for Simon Step Company. While a member at the Grace Bible Church, he served as a trustee and sound technician. Presently, he attended the Fairview Missionary Church in Angola. He also enjoyed fishing at Jimmerson Lake.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Teresa (Wasa) Sakamoto of Santa Monica, California; Julie Lauletta of Fort Wayne; and Carol (Jack) Shumaker of LaOtto; brother, Weldon Whitenack of Washington, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Ross; brother, Merrill Whitenack; five half-brothers, Edward, Chet, Dorwin, True, and Elvin Whitenack; and three sisters, Ruth Spies; Lois Felty; and Leah Hoffman.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, January 14 at the West Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Keith Rupp. Burial will take place at the Bluff Point Cemetery near Portland.
Memorials may be made to Gideon's International, Fairview Missionary Church, and West Missionary Church.
