Ted D. Lehman
Ted D. Lehman, 81, a lifelong resident of Berne passed away on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on May 4, 1932 to David and Olga (Flueckiger) Lehman. He was married on November 8, 1953 to Gloria Reinhard.
He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, serving on the visitation committee. He graduated from Berne High School in 1950 and shortly afterwards served two years in the US Army at Camp Pickett, Virginia and Fort Knox, Kentucky. He worked as a self-employed plastering contractor. Later, he worked for Habegger Builders and was a maintenance technician for the Berne US Post Office. Following his retirement, he worked as a maintenance technician at Swiss Village Retirement Center and as a courier for the First Bank of Berne. In 1971, he served a term on the Berne City Council. He was an avid sports fan and bowled for many years.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Rosemari (Tad) Sinnock of Indianapolis; sister, Carmen Roth of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Holly Byer of Newport, Tennessee; and Julie (Ryan) Hurt of Bryant; and six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob, and Ethan Shults; and Ashley, Kayla, and Renna Hurt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela S. Byer; three brothers, Richard L. Lehman; James B. Lehman; and Reid O. Lehman; and sister, Alice R. Neuenschwander.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, July 24 at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
