Willis L. Martin, 81, a resident of rural Bryant died at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
He was born on Monday, April 8, 1929, in Mercer County, Ohio, to William and Lela (Stolz) Martin. He was married on July 1, 1950 in the New Corydon Zion Lutheran Church, to Alethea Bollenbacher.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portland, where he was a former member of the church council. He was a 1946 graduate of Celina High School. He attended IBC-Fort Wayne, earning an associate’s degree in accounting. He was a lifelong grain and dairy farmer. He was a Jay County REMC Board member, served on the Jefferson Township Advisory Board and was involved with Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by his wife; five sons, Alan (Abbey); and Robert (Beth) Martin, both of Decatur; and Doyle; Dwight (Jane); and Bradley (Jill) Martin, all of Bryant; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randall Martin; and one brother, Donald Martin.
Visitation is from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 14 at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva, and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. service on Sunday, August 15 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portland. Officiating is Pastor Mark Strietelmeier. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Geneva.
