Coming from a number two singles position to win the Allen County Athletic Conference singles tennis tournament is a rare feat, but Adams Central’s Lydia Johnson accomplished exactly that this past weekend.
Johnson won her first two matches in commanding style, beating Bluffton’s Sammy Gilliam 6-1, 6-0 and South Adams’ Maddy Kloepper 6-0, 6-0, then took an epic three-set battle 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-5 from Leo’s number one player, Jen Timbrook, to reach the championship match. Johnson then beat Leo No. 2 Annya Mohlman in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to claim the title.
