The husband and wife running team of Justin and Melissa Gillette recently scored a pair of marathon wins on two separate weekends. Melissa Gillette is the daughter of Jim and Bertie Lehman of Berne.
The pair took part in the Atlanta Marathon on October 30 with Justin taking the overall title in 2:33.45 and Melissa won the women’s title in 3:01.40. They repeated the title haul this past weekend at the Veteran’s Marathon in Columbia City with Justin winning in 2:40.06 and Melissa claiming the women’s race in 3:04.22.
Justin’s time at the Veteran’s Marathon was a bit off of his usual pace, but just a day earlier he had claimed the 11-11-11 Marathon of Sarasota in 2:34.50.
“My goal for the back to back marathons was to run them both under 2:35,” stated Justin.
Melissa has completed and won three marathons this fall, setting the course record in each. In addition to the Atlanta and Columbia City races, Melissa won the Rochester (NY) Marathon on September 18.
Justin has competed in 10 marathons this fall, winning nine of them and setting course records in four. In addition to his November wins, Gillette has claimed titles in the Drake Well Marathon, the Heart of America Marathon, the Sioux Falls Marathon, Rochester Marathon, Johnstown (PA) Marathon, and the Grand Rapids Marathon.
