Liechty runs to state
South Adams junior Evan Liechty was surprised at the position he found himself in as he approached the finish line of New Haven cross country semi-state Saturday afternoon.
Going into the event, Liechty had set his goal at finishing in the top 15 individually and qualifying for the state finals. When he actually crossed the line, he did so in third place with a personal best time of 15:59.22. Liechty noted that his previous best had been 16:14. He is the first runner in the history of the South Adams cross country program to reach the state finals.
"I was surprised I ended up being where I was," said Liechty. "I was definitely surprised at the end.
