Regional title goes to Huntington North
Now, that was weird.
South Adams was crowned champions of the Marion boys’ cross country regional Saturday morning after it was announced it had beaten defending regional champion Huntington North 56-57. The Starfires were presented the regional plaque, celebrated with their fans and boarded the bus for a jovial ride home…but they hadn’t won.
A clerical error by the officials running the meet left Bluffton out of the overall scoring and when Bluffton was added to the scoring the Starfires tied with Huntington North 59-59. The results then go to the sixth runner tiebreaker, and Huntington’s finished nine spots ahead of South Adams’ to give the Vikings the win.
