Squaws fall to Saints

A late surge was not enough for Bellmont to overcome a slow start as it fell 47-39 to Bishop Dwenger in varsity girls’ basketball Tuesday night in Decatur.
Dwenger led 14-8 after one quarter and extended its lead over the next two quarters, going into the final period with a 38-26 lead. Bellmont (0-1) outscored Dwenger 13-9 in the fourth quarter.
Madison Schultz led Bellmont with 15 points. Payton Schultz added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sara Williamson scored five points, Dana Kaczmarek had three, Mikala Quinn and Taylor Kuhnle both scored two.
Bellmont won the junior varsity contest 44-41, getting 17 points from Audrey Schultz and 13 from Ashley Piper.
