Starfires falter against New Haven

New Haven scored four times in its last at bat and dealt South Adams a crushing 10-8 defeat in girls varsity softball Thursday in Berne. South Adams led after each of its trips to the plate, but went scoreless in its final at-bat.
The Starfires (1-2) tallied 13 hits, getting two each from Brianna Nevil, Karen Bollenbacher, Jen Miller, and Rosa Hilty.
Miller drove in three runs. Nevil had one RBI.
Katrina Hawkins suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 0-2 for the season. She gave up eight hits, walked five and was hurt by the Starfires' 10 fielding errors. Hawkins struck out nine.
