Starfires win baseball invitational
South Adams hosted its first annual varsity baseball invitational in cold and wet conditions Saturday, but came away with a pair of wins and the first team title. The Starfires (8-12) beat Hagerstown in the opening round 11-9, setting up a championship contest with Frankton â€“ a 19-13 winner over Blackhawk Christian.
South Adams beat Frankton 13-4 in the championship round, while Blackhawk beat Hagerstown 5-2 in the consolation.
Taylor LeFever and Marcus Rich hit home runs in the Starsâ€™ win over Hagerstown. Nick Batt was the winning pitcher, going two innings in relief of Dustin Wanner. Caleb Sprunger earned a save.
