Carr served as a football, and occasionally golf, coach. Superintendent Mike Pettibone thanked Carr for his loyalty to the school district stating, “thank-you for the hours of service.”
Continued on page 5
The other retirement was Sara Jo Sprunger, the school’s library media specialist. Pettibone noted that he had served at various schools and worked with various librarians and media specialists, and said, “Sara Jo brings an energy and passion to the job as much as anybody I’ve been around.”
Elementary Principal Terri Laurent added to this sentiment, saying “She brings books alive to students. We’re going to miss her so much.”
Sprunger was an employee of 23 years.
The school board also accepted the resignation of Linda Sprunger. She is a Title 1 teacher who works with gifted students, as well as English-as-a-second-language students.
Sprunger’s husband, who is a pastor accepted a position at a church in Oklahoma. Laurent noted that Sprunger is a “very diverse person”, citing some of the various positions she holds or has held with the school in the six years she has been employed, including teaching a Spanish class. “She can do just about anything,” Laurent said.
Pettibone spoke briefly on New Tech, noting that he had attended an Indiana New Tech High School Network meeting, and came away from it “renewed about where we’re headed”.
He stated that there are to 26 new New Tech schools in the United States next year, and that Indiana is a “hotbed”. Part of the reason for this is the grant by the Lilly Foundation that is focused on Northeast Indiana.
He also noted that with North Adams becoming an early college high school, this area will offer choices to students that very few other places have.
Early college high schools offer students the opportunity to combine high school and the first two years of college, saving money on college tuitions.
