Florence Waneta Lorton, 91, of Berne passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Chalet Village Health Care Center in Berne. She was was born on Tuesday, May 3, 1921 in Elroy, Ohio to Orville B. and Theedis A. (Dawson) Lea. She was married on Thursday, June 10, 1943 in Greenville, Ohio to Ray Lorton.
She was a homemaker until she went to work for Swiss Village, where she was a nurse's aide for about 11 years before retiring in 1986. She was very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending her time with them. She was a member of the West Missionary Church in Berne.
She is survived by two sons, Tracy (Sandy) Lorton of Linn Grove; and Leon (Mary) Lea of Ft. Recovery, Ohio; daughter, Melody Streight of Columbia City; two sisters, Charlene Hamilton; and Phyllis Bruss, both of Union City, Ohio; three brothers, Dawson Lea; Millard Lea; and Willard Lea, all of Union City, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Joy Jackson; two brothers, Arthur Lea; and James Lea; and four sisters, Ruth Leedom; June Sharp; Maxine Lea; and Arlene Hittle.
Visitation was two hours prior to the 12:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, October 1 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Officiating was Pastor Keith Rupp. Graveside service followed at 2:00 p.m. at the Brick Cemetery in Randolph County.
