Shaffer Auto fire ruled accidental
A fire that destroyed Shaffer Investment Auto in Decatur was ruled accidental, said officials of the business following a thorough investigation by the state fire marshal’s office in connection with local fire officials.
The fire, which occurred last Tuesday, quickly engulfed the structure to the extent that much of it had been destroyed when firemen from Decatur and Preble arrived at the scene shortly before midnight.
At the time, Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel had speculated that the building was a total loss. Various car parts located inside were destroyed, as were two vehicles located close to the building.
Markel had observed that the roof over the back half of the building collapsed and a portion of the wall facing 13th Street is also gone.
At the current time, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
