Alice Lengerich

Alice M. Huser Lengerich, 96, of Berne passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. She was born June 24, 1927, into the home of Rufus and Nora Huser. She had two brothers, Ivan Huser and Kenneth Huser as well as two sisters, Belva Schnepp and Carol Yoder, all of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Geneva High School in 1945 and upon graduation immediately started her professional career at The Berne Witness newspaper. After three years at The Berne Witness, she was hired by the First Bank of Berne where she worked for 40 years until her retirement.
On Jan. 20, 1952, she and Raymond Lengerich were married and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Tim (Katie) Lengerich living in Colmar, France; Gary (Jody) Lengerich residing in Berne; and Stan (Vicki) Lengerich, who live in Avon.
One of her great joys in life was spending time with her seven grandchildren, Kristine Buchhold, Joanna Conte, Carlie Freeman, Kinsey Wysong, Cameron Lengerich, Amanda Lengerich and Andrea Yager. In addition to the grandchildren, there came 12 great-granddaughters, a true blessing for which she was very thankful.
She was a lifelong member of the Spring Hill Missionary Church. She acted as the church treasurer for much of her adult life. She also enjoyed quilting with the women of the Spring Hill Church whose creations were sent to missionaries who distributed them to the needy.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 25 from 1-4 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and Monday, Feb. 26 one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service at Spring Hill Missionary Church in rural Berne. Officiating will be Pastor David Cox and Pastor Gene Wilson. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
