Jacob B. Girod

Jacob B. Girod, 71, of rural Berne passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 10:50 p.m. in the Adams Memorial Hospital emergency room. He was born Monday, April 20, 1953, in Adams County to Benjamin S. and Catherine J. (Wickey) Girod. He was married to Delilah Schwartz.
He was a woodworker and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; stepmother, Clara Byler of Salem; four daughters, Emma J. (Jacob) Wickey; and Delilah J. (Menno) Wickey, both of Berne; Melinda J. (John) Schwartz of Monroe; and Amanda J. (John) Schwartz of Decatur; five sons, Jacob J. (Emma) Girod of Willshire, Ohio; Benjamin J. (Lucy) Girod; and Ernest J. (Lizzie) Girod, both of Berne; and Ervin J. (Mary) Girod; and Andrew J. (Elizabeth) Girod, both of Portland; eight brothers, Sam (Mary) Girod; David (Elma) Girod; and Amos (Ann) Girod, all of Salem; Eli (Mandy) Girod; and Ernest (Lucy) Girod, both of Geneva; Ben (Rosie) Girod of Delaney; Jerry (Melinda) Girod of Bryant; and Aden (Mary) Girod of Carlisle, Kentucky; two half brothers, Simon (Christine) Girod; and Manuel (Mandy) Girod, both of Brooksville, Kentucky; three sisters, Emma (Emanuel) Schwartz of Monroe; Lizzie (Rudy) Christner of Owensville, Kentucky; and Melinda (Joe) Schwartz of Decatur; three stepbrothers, William (Becky) Byler of Salem; Ruben (Delilah) Byler of Delaney; and Jacob (Mary) Byler of Indiana; two stepsisters, Mattie (Martin) Schmidt; and Susie (Manuel) Schmidt, both of Salem; 76 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three stepbrothers, Andy Byler; Johnathan Byler; and John Byler.
Visitation will be Friday, May 10 from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Jacob B. Girod residence, 2595 E. 650 S., Berne. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 12 at 9 a.m. at the residence. Officiating will be Bishop Sam S. Schwartz. Burial will be at Blue Creek Amish Cemetery in Berne.
