Ray Gill

Ray D. Gill, 88, of Mason, Ohio passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 12, 1935, in Athens, Alabama to William C. and Mildred (Graul) Gill. He was married Dec. 20, 1959, in Berne to Marlene Martin.
He was a member of Cross United Church of Christ in Berne, where he served the Lord by being a church elder and then president of the congregation. He was a member of the Yorktown Lions Club; the Wayne County Ohio Junior Achievement, where he held the position of president for eight years; and the American Hardware Manufacturers Association, where he was national chairman in 1993. He also served on several boards of directors, including the Dunlap Memorial Hospital Orrville, Ohio; First National Bank of Orrville, Ohio; CNC Metal Products, Inc.; school board of South Adams Schools Corporation in Berne; and the Berne Stormwater Utility Board. He also served on the board of Adams County Community Foundation in Decatur.
He was president and CEO of Orrco, Inc. in Orrville, Ohio. Previously, he worked at Allegheny International in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Jackson Mfg. Company in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Marsh Supermarkets in Yorktown.
He served his country in the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was honorably discharged Jan. 7, 1956.
He enjoyed flying and being a private pilot. He also enjoyed golf, snow skiing and water skiing.
He is survived by his wife of Mason, Ohio; daughter, Michelle DeRae (Eric) Leeson of Mason, Ohio; brother, James (Dianna) Gill of Albany; sister, Norma Faye (William) Gentry of Solana Beach, California; half-sister, Judy (Kent) McKinley of Gaston; four grandchildren, Evan (Allison) Leeson; Gwen (Alex) Holt Leeson; Austin Leeson; and Emily Leeson; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Leeson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 9 two hours prior to the 3 p.m. memorial service at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Price.
