Paul D. Pinkerton, 74, of Portland and former Jackson Township resident, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at his home. He was born on October 10, 1938 in Huntington to Herman and Pearl (Sprinkle) Pinkerton. He was married on June 24, 1960 to Ruthann Foltz.
He was a graduate of Petroleum High School and served with the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. He was a farmer, Jay School Corporation bus driver, owner of Pinkerton Backhoe and Trucking, and worked for Franklin Electric, Jay County surveyors office, and Geneva Elevator. He was Jackson Township trustee, member of Sugar Grove Church of Nazarene, and Gideons.
He is survived by his wife; son, Rex (Cathy) Pinkerton of Portland; four daughters, Lynn Pinkerton of Portland; and Irene Pinkerton; Beth Pinkerton; and Rachel (John) Greene, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Mary Ann Reed of Geneva; Alice James of Keystone; and Shirley Duncan of Bluffton; two sister-in-laws, Judy Pinkerton of Keystone; and Sue Pinkerton of Geneva; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 and prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, April 8 at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Sheets. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville.
