Ruth E. Cobb

Ruth E. Cobb, 84, of Marcellus, Michigan passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012. She was born on June 8, 1928 to Hugh M. and Esther (French) Cobb.
She graduated from North Central College and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University and was a member of their Alumni Associations. She taught high school math from 1950 to 1994 in the Marcellus Public Schools. She taught driver’s education and was the yearbook advisor for many years. She was the scorekeeper for the boy’s varsity basketball team from 1950 to 2012, kept stats for the track team, was a member of the Marcellus High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Marcellus United Methodist Churh, active in the UMW, and was the church organist for many years.
She is survived by her sister, Nova May Shilt of Plymouth; niece, Jean (Charlie) Hoover of Noblesville; nephew, Kenneth (Sharon) Shilt of LaPorte; and many dear friends in the Marcellus area.
She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Raymond Shilt.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home in Marcellus, Michigan. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26 in the Marcellus United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Pastor John D. Messner. Burial will take place at the Marcellus Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Marcellus United Methodist Church or the Marcellus High School Athletic Department.
