Wayne H. Hirschy
Wayne H. Hirschy, 91 of Decatur passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Woodcrest Nursing Center in Decatur. He was born on September 1, 1921 in Adams County to Henry C. and Selma (Walchle) Hirschy. He was married on December 6, 1941 to Dortha M. Ray.
He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 43. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II, serving in the 8th Air Force in England, the 9th Air Force in France and Air Service Command in the United States. He retired in 1985 from CTS with 19 years of service.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry (Alice) Hirschy of Monroe; David (Libby) Hirschy of Peoria, Illinois; and Keith (Gina) Hirschy of Pikeville, North Carolina; two daughters, Jo Ann (Bill) Strait of Monroe; and Phyllis (Jim) Stauffer of Yorktown; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on February 19, 2012; great-grandson, Drake Hill; and brother Raymond Hirschy.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, February 11 at Monroe United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Char Allen. Burial will be at Springhill (Backesto) Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
